Scaling Up Waste Diversion for Long-Term Food Security

Aotearoa Disaster and Community Resources (ADCR) is cementing its environmental legacy assisting diverting more than 126,000 kg of surplus food and essential items each year.

By establishing this consistent, annual cycle of resource rescue, ADCR prevents massive volumes of waste from rotting in landfills, translating into an ongoing saving of over 353,000 kg (353 tonnes) of CO₂e emissions annually.

This continuous, year-on-year redistribution creates a permanent shield against food insecurity and climate change:

  • Compounding Carbon Savings: Mitigating hundreds of tonnes of greenhouse gases year after year to protect the whenua.

  • Perpetual Food Security: Establishing a reliable, ongoing pipeline that constantly redirects quality food straight to the families who need it most.

  • Year-Round Readiness: Continuously rotating fresh stockpiles through schools and local hubs, ensuring communities are permanently equipped for future disasters.

By scaling this into a sustainable annual operation, ADCR ensures that food security and climate action are not just temporary fixes, but lasting pillars of community resilience
