Glimpse of what we have done when distaste strikes

Working together in times of need

When disaster strikes, ADCR works alongside local communities and response groups to help get essential supplies to the people who need them most. We provide resources, logistical support and practical guidance to help communities respond to immediate needs and support those affected. By working together with local groups and empowering them to lead their own response, we help ensure assistance reaches affected whānau and communities can begin the process of recovery. Our focus is on building strong local connections, supporting communities through challenging times and helping them become better prepared for future emergencies.

Emergency Response and Strategy

During an emergency, ADCR serves as a critical first point of contact for community groups and volunteers requiring urgent disaster relief supplies. Based near major transport hubs in Kopu, the charity utilizes New Zealand’s highways and waterways to swiftly move resources into affected regions. By keeping a surplus on standby, ADCR bridges the crucial gap for families waiting on official disaster relief, delivering practical support and restoring dignity when it matters most.

Building Resilience Together

Our Services

Our dedicated volunteers, Jemma and Hannah, helping Neela prepare meals for people whose homes became uninhabitable during the Cyclone Gabrielle weather event in Hawke’s Bay. This is a great example of our volunteers coming together to support those affected by disaster, providing practical help and ensuring people have access to food during an incredibly challenging time.

One of the emergency response hubs established by ADCR near Ōtorohanga during the 2026 flooding. These hubs help bring essential supplies and resources closer to affected communities, providing a central point for coordinating support and getting help to those who need it most during an emergency.

Our ADCR team loading up essential supplies, including carrots, potatoes and drinking water, to deliver to Hawke’s Bay during the severe flooding. Getting fresh produce and basic necessities to affected communities was an important part of our emergency response, helping ensure whānau had access to food and clean drinking water during a challenging time.
